Job overview

Community  Consultant Paediatrician Richmond, who will also be the Named Doctor for Children Looked After and Medical Officer for Adoption and Fostering in Richmond. Full time (10 PAs)

This is a statutory role for leadership and also needs to fulfill the role of a developmental paediatrician in the community, alongside contributing in the integrated weekly safeguarding rota for Richmond. 

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic  Community  Consultant Paediatrician to join our closely knit multi-disciplinary Specialist Children's Community Services team  based at Ham Clinic, in Ham. 

This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dedicated specialist supportive multi-disciplinary team providing excellent community services improving the health and well-being of children, young people and families of Richmond. 

A vacancy has arisen due to the current post holder moving and includes responsibilities in neurodevelopmental paedatrics and safeguarding.  Currently we work with our safeguarding partner in Hounslow. 

 We are looking for someone who is flexible, excellent communication skills and is a team player.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as part of a small team consisting of 3 Consultant Community Paediatricians,  specialist nurses and dedicated administrative support.   

They will deliver 10 programmed activities on average a week including the named Dr CLA, Medical Officer for Adoption and Fostering, Child developmental clinic, Child Protection Medical rota and an MDT, (autism/neurodisability)  or SEN or CLA clinic. 

The successful applicant will be expected to local agencies and authorities providing specialist paediatric medical advice.

Provide leadership including contributing to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines and service evaluation/development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified medical practitioner
  • Full GMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification : eg: MRCPH, Msc, DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas.

Other

Essential criteria
  • EEA Residency status or work permit
  • Act as an Ambassador for the Trust and work in accordance with Trust Values of Care, Respect and Communication
  • Able to travel independently
  • Satisfactory enhanced CRB check
  • Reference from LAC colleagues (Consultant rank)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Senior Consultant Paediatrician with a wide breadth of knowledge in all areas of community paediatrics (child development, autism, neurodisability, SEND, child protection)
  • Level 3+ in Safeguarding Children equivalent training
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist experience in one or more areas of practice
  • Experience in adult medical examination and reporting is desirable.

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess a normal child and to recognise and appropriately manage abnormality
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how working in community settings differs from hospital.
  • Willingness to work without immediate supervision but with an awareness of one’s individual limitations.
  • Capacity to take in others’ perspectives and treat others with understanding
  • Experience of communicating with other disciplines
  • Capacity to manage difficult situations under pressure. Demonstrates initiative & resilience to cope with changing circumstances
  • Capacity to achieve a balance between urgent and important demands

Teaching, audit and research

Essential criteria
  • Participation in research or clinical audit
  • Willingness to take part in teaching
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrated ability or experience in teaching e;g ST8 , Medical students and other allied health professionals

Management

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of management issues Including medical discipline , clinical governance , service planning
  • Willingness to participate in service developments
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in planning and implementation of services
