Community CAMHS is a large mental health and community psychology service comprising many pathways and services utilising an iThrive model, including CAMHS Disability (CAMD), First Steps (FS) and SCAC. We are embedded within the acute and community services for City and Hackney, working in multi-disciplinary ways with physical and community health partners through Homerton Healthcare which is leading the neighborhoods agenda. We work in an integrated way with other mental health and statutory services within the borough, via a CAMHS Alliance, with shared pathways for 16+ with Adult IAPT and with ILDS, for transition to adulthood.
Due to a vacancy - after a promotion - we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician to lead the autism pathways for children with co-occurring intellectual disability and to lead on the Getting Help (GH) and Thriving offers in CAMHS Disability. We are looking for an experienced clinician, e.g. Clinical Psychologist to join Community CAMHS at the Hackney Ark, a centre that provides a comprehensive range of child health services for children and young people with disabilities, additional needs and vulnerabilities.
Main duties of the job
This is a part time 0.6 wte role, Wednesday to Friday to lead the ND diagnostic pathways for children with ID and Getting Help offers.
- Provide operational clinical and strategic leadership on CCC, DDAC assessments, intervention, diagnostic decision making
- Work as a consultant member of CCC, carrying out complex diagnostic assessments and interventions and strategically planning the CAMHS involvement in Paediatric led clinics
- Work as a member of DDAC for complex cases, for a small caseload of children and young people, carrying out ADOS and 3di assessments and diagnosis, differential diagnosis and complex case decisions, and leading the team in strategic visioning
- Clinically operate and strategically lead the tier 2/Getting help, getting advice and thriving offers in CAMHS Disability
- Line manage and clinical supervise staff in these pathways
- Liaise and work jointly with colleagues from the CAMHS services across Community CAMHS and the CAMHS Alliance, social care and education
- Complete general clinical duties of band 8 clinicians e.g. SPA, Initial Assessment, MDT, meetings and training.
- Complete general Senior Manager leadership tasks as agreed by Heads of Community CAMHS, e.g. lead on training committees; MDT chair; Datix, FOI and NICE guideline requests. Deputise for Heads as appropriate.

Essential criteria
- Service planning, finance and organisational skills at a service level, linking with exec and divisional level teams and ICB.
- Ability to deal sensitively with stressful situations including staff and/or organisational problems, child abuse, family breakdown, serious mental ill health, to cope with verbal abuse and to recognise and diffuse potential physical abuse from clients.
- Skills of negotiation and dealing with difficult and risky situations, making decisions quickly e.g., safeguarding.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working as a Qualified Clinical Psychologist or equivalent working with children and families or related service area to consultant level eligibility.
- Experience of working in a primary care/NHS setting and leading successful pathways
- Substantial experience in teaching and training and audit/QI evaluation of services.
- Supervision of trainees and Psychologists up to band 8.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to draw upon broad knowledge of psychological theory and practice.
- Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to mental health of children, young people and their families.
- A high level of knowledge of the factors affecting the psychological and social well-being of children and young people.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and national policy framework relating to the NHS/work with children and young people and their families e.g., CORC
- Doctoral (or equivalent) level of knowledge in research design and methodology, including statistical analysis.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent profession (or equivalent for those qualified prior to 1997 or Statement of Equivalence in Clinical Psychology approved by the British Psychological Society).
- Evidence of CPD in leadership.
- Substantive Post qualification experience in the NHS
- Line management and supervision of Clinical Psychologists and wider psychological professionals
- CAMHS pathway leadership
Desirable criteria
- Chartered (Clinical Psychologist) status
- Relevant post-qualification training (e.g., systemic family therapy, leadership/management).
- Publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Completed further training in teaching, leadership and supervision.
