Job overview
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a trainee with an interest in education to develop as a clinical medical educator within the exciting field of simulation. This is a twelve month post aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience to develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.
This post is designed to provide a wide range of educational experience for a higher trainee who wishes to make a commitment to education as part of their career.
Main duties of the job
• To develop their skills in simulation and medical education
• Teaching on simulation and clinical skills Programme, especially with multidisciplinary, in situ training
• To develop, implement and deliver innovative simulation training & courses, at course director level
• Be able to develop own teaching materials and gain experience in the obtaining funding for training and equipment
• Be provided with an opportunity to gain an educational qualification to the level of certificate or above
• To liaise with The Medical School, Foundation School, relevant Specialty Schools and other key stakeholders (e.g. Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy) to optimize co- operation and the use of existing resources
• To participate in educational research (e.g. simulation training & transferable skills), management and educational governance (e.g. participation in Simulation Strategy Group meetings)
• Participation in Medical Education Committee meetings

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full registration with a license to practice from the General Medical Council, or eligible for same
- Completion of core training examinations (where appropriate)
- Satisfactory progression through training as demonstrated by satisfactory RITA or ARCP outcomes
- IMT /CT and above
- Working towards a higher qualification or training in Medical education
Desirable criteria
- Prizes or distinctions.
- Higher qualification or training in Medical education
- Presentation of work at a national or international meeting.
- Publications in peer reviewed journals.
Knowledge and Expertise
Essential criteria
- Completion of core training competencies
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching ability
- Evidence of leadership ability
- Familiarity with current IT software packages
- ALS, APLS & ATLS provider or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in teaching
Desirable criteria
- Team building skills
- Advanced life support course instructor (ALS/ATLS/APLS)
Simulation
Essential criteria
- Experience in facilitation of simulation courses
- Demonstrated interest in simulation and medical education
- Train-the Trainers for simulation course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of development of educational programmes
