An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Staff Nurse to join our Urology Outpatient Department in a developmental role leading towards Band 6. This post offers a unique opportunity to develop specialist urology skills in a dynamic and supportive environment, working alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team in the delivery of expert urological care.

As a Urology Staff Nurse , you will play a vital role in supporting both nursing and medical colleagues in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. This role is developmental, with structured training an supervision provided to support progression to a Band 6 Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist post.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to nursing and medical staff in the delivery of specialist care within the Urology Department.
  • Assist the Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in running nurse-led clinics such as Trial Without Catheter (TWOC) clinic, performing catheter changes, administering bladder instillations, and Uro-Dynamics clinic. 
  • Assist in the Flexible Cystoscopy clinic.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team and service users involved in urology care.
  • Take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, under the guidance and supervision of senior staff.

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse – Degree level or equivalent or working towards
  • Evidence of recent professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience in a urology or surgical ward or outpatients setting
  • Teaching qualification or extensive experience e.g., ENB 998

Skills/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage own workload under the supervision of Senior Staff.
  • Ability to perform a urinalysis
  • Able to be an advocate for patient and families, and the service as a whole.
  • Competent in obtaining and recording baseline patient observations.
  • Able to work as an effective team member
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience of using these skills
  • Ability to performing a flow rate and post void bladder scan.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience relevant to speciality for at least 18 months
  • Experience in an Outpatient setting within the NHS
  • Experience in supervising and teaching junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience assisting in a flexible cystoscopy clinic
  • Recent experience assisting in a catheter clinic
