Job overview
This three-month senior clinical fellow post in HIV medicine is available from September 2025 and is based at the Royal Free Hospital site in Hampstead, London NW3 2QG.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic and welcoming team of trainees and consultants in HIV medicine. Duties will include, but not be limited to, admission and care of HIV inpatients and review of patients in the Ian Charleson Day Centre, our outpatient HIV unit. The postholder will work in the capacity of Registrar. They will also participate in the ID on-call rota.
Training in infection is provided and there are a number of weekly joint educational meetings with the departments of HIV, Microbiology, Virology and Infectious Diseases.

- GMC registration
- MBBS or equivalent Postgraduate degree
- MRCP(UK) Part 1 or EEA eligibility
Desirable criteria
- Full MRCP(UK)
- Intercalated BSc or equivalent
- Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD (where the research thesis is not part of first medical degree.)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take, during core training or equivalent
- Experience at CT/ST 1/2-level of managing patients with HIV
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Competence at corecompletion level in the management of medical emergencies, in-patients and outpatients
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Proficiency in a range of medical procedures (as defined by the core curriculum) as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate
- Able to prioritise clinical need
- Able to maximise safety and minimise risk
- Current ALS certification or equivalent
- Skills in the management of patients not requiring hospital admission
Academic Skills
Essential criteria
- Involvement in teaching students, postgraduates and other professionals
- Understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Understanding of clinical governance
- Fluency in English
- Computer Literacy
- Good communication skills
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated
- Able to work both independently and as part of team
- Resourceful and imaginative
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of research methodology
- Relevant academic and research achievements, and involvement in a formal research project
