Main duties of the job
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a locum consultant in Gynaecology to join us at the Royal Free Hospitals NHS Trust to address the increasing general gynaecology and cancer workload across all our sites for a 6 month fixed term starting from 1st April 2026. The candidate is expected to have a broad range of skills in gynaecology but this post is looking specifically for candidates with a particular special interest in gynaecology oncology. The successful candidate is expected to provide cover for labour ward, rapid access clinic and general gynae operating.

- MRCOG
- CCT/CCST or equivalent
- Entry onto the Specialist Register of the GMC (or eligibility for entry within 6mths of AAC)
- Hold Full Registration with GMC

- MSc/MD/PhD
- International presentations
Specialist Skills
Essential criteria
- ATSM or equivalent in Advanced Labour Ward Practice
- Experience working/running labour ward and antenatal clinics
Desirable criteria
- ATSM or equivalent in benign gynaecological surgery – hysteroscopy
Skills and aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Leadership qualities
- Experience and commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
- Ability to make decisions at Consultant level and to contribute to management of high risk patients
Personal Qualities & attributes
Essential criteria
- Fluent in written and spoken English with excellent interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm and ability to remain calm and work well under pressure
- Effective communication and organisational skills
Experience / Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable knowledge of the challenges facing the service
- Experience in benign open surgery
Desirable criteria
- - Extensive demonstrable clinical training and experience in intrapartum care
- Experienced consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist

- Member of Medical Defence organisation
- Evidence of commitment to audit (inc. presentation skills and good knowledge of evidence based practice)
