Job overview
As a Senior Physiologist, you will support the head of department in the development and delivery of a high quality diagnostic lung function service across our sites. To carry out the full range of respiratory investigations and to play a key role in the development of the specialist diagnostic services, ensuring the highest standards are maintained and promoted. To participate in the department's research, development and audit activities.
This post offers the opportunity to develop and advance skills and career in respiratory physiology within a large specialist teaching hospital. Depending on experience, the candidate may need to complete competency assessments for various tests and procedures carried out in the department. You will play a significant role in the expansion of the range and quality of diagnostic services offered. Experience with CPET testing would be advantageous. The role works within the departments condensed hours working pattern, but flexible working discussions are encouraged.
Ideally you will be working as a healthcare scientist at band 6 level or band 5 with significant experience working in a Lung Function Laboratory and the willingness to up-skill. You should hold a degree in Respiratory Clinical Physiology, STP, PTP, Biological Science subject, Level 6 apprenticeship healthcare science, Graduate Diploma in Respiratory Science or equivalent. ARTP Practitioner exam or equivalent is essential. You should be AHCP or HCPC registered.

To perform a wide range of respiratory and sleep diagnostic tests listed below:
- Spirometry
- Gas transfer measurements
- Lung volume measurements using Body Plethysmography and Nitrogen Washout
- Airways resistance
- Bronchodilator response tests
- Blood gas analysis
- LTOT & AOT Assessments
- Hypoxic Challenge
- Field walk tests
- Respiratory muscle testing
- Overnight oximetry and limited multichannel sleep studies
- Any other test deemed necessary by the head of department
