Addictions Clinical Nurse Specialist

The role is specific to supporting those who aim to improve health outcomes, especially for those who continually consume alcohol, where traditional structured treatment will not be appropriate.
The aim of the service is to help those with a range of health needs, including drug and alcohol use, access appropriate treatment and address clients' physical and mental health. The service will provide essential health promotion to increase the number of clients engaging with services to address their health and well-being.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
- Patient Assessment: Conduct initial assessments to evaluate addiction severity and monitor patient progress.
- Treatment Planning: Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualised treatment plans.
- Medication management - issuing scripts for patients on OST and patients on alcohol community detox.

Education and Qualifications

- RMN / RN on the NMC register
- Evidence of completion of preceptorship OR continuing personal development and post- registration training in the care, assessment and treatment of Mental Health or substance misuse service users.

- Completed the Motivational Interviewing Training Module
Previous Experience

- Post-registration experience in Mental Health or Substance Misuse
- Experience in undertaking Risk Assessments and Risk Management

- Experience of working in and delivering services to substance misusers.
- Experience working with Patient Information Systems
Skills and knowledge

- Good communication skills (verbal and written) plus good levels of numeracy
- Ability to work autonomously and to prioritise effectively
- An appreciation of the range of issues that may affect substance misusers
- An understanding of harm minimisation and health promotion in the specific context of substance misuse
- IT literate: competent using Microsoft Word and able to report clinical activity data on patient information systems
