Due to new funding, we are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Dietitian t to join our growing service in the area of urgent community response. The post will be working in the community and based in our multi-disciplinary community treatment team in Havering.  After a successful pilot of speech therapy and dietetic support to this team last winter, the service was successful in gaining fixed-term funding to support a speech therapist, dietitian and assistant practitioner until the end of March 2026.  The role will involve using quality improvement methodology to understand the current service and horizon-scan for new opportunities to keep vulnerable people out of hospital wherever possible.

We are interested in recruiting an individual who is able to provide a thorough, evidence-based and holistic approach to patient care. The successful candidate will be responsible for independent assessment and management of patients needing dietetics support. You will be expected to supervise junior colleagues and provide training to other healthcare professionals.  There will be a specific expectation within this role to work collaboratively and in a timely fashion with speech and language therapists, nursing and medical colleagues to keep people in their home environments wherever possible and work proactively to reduce future risks.  The role will also involve collaboration with external teams, particularly primary care teams, our local virtual frailty ward and the frailty unit at the new St George’s Health and Wellbeing Centre in Hornchurch.

 Clinical support will be provided by the Clinical Lead Dietitians also Clinical Leads for the Community Treatment Team. CPD is actively supported through regular clinical supervision, appraisals,, dietetic network meeting and excellent training opportunities.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent postgraduate degree
  • Registered as a Dietitian with the Health Care Professions Council
  • Membership of the British Dietetics Association and specialist group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent clinical experience of at least 3 years with UK NHS experience (minimum 1 year)
  • Experience of working in a community setting, particularly nutrition support
  • Experience of working as part of a MDT:
  • Ability to deliver training both internally and externally to other staff groups.
  • Awareness of local and national guides for appropriate persctibing of ONS
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of audit/research.
  • Experience of developing protocols and clinical guidelines

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • An awareness of NHS priorities

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Clinical knowledge & experience across a variety of disease states and diabetes Therapies
  • Experience of: Enteral Feeding/Nutritional Support(PEG/PEJ/RIG/NG/NJ feeds)
  • Effective organisational skills- to be able to prioritise and manage own workload within time and financial constraints
  • Problem solving approach - to be able to identify, analyse and evaluate a range of complex dietetic & non-dietetic, patient & non-patient related problems
  • Confident in line management support for junior members
  • Experience of providing support to Students & actively take part in student training
