Job overview

The post holder, working closely with the Service Manager, will be responsible for 
ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of patient care within their Directorate. 
The post-holder will be expected to identify and implement initiatives to improve 
services, with delegated responsibility from the Service Manager, and lead 
designated projects to ensure key performance targets (financial, operational and 
clinical) are met.
The post holder will provide direct support to the Service Manager (and cover during 
absence) in leading a team who will provide focused pathway management for long 
waiting patients and wider coordination of training across the whole Care Group. In 
collaboration with the Senior Management team and with their Clinical Director, they 
will ensure that administrative colleagues have clear development materials and 
competency packages in all key areas of data quality, including 18 week RTT, 
Cancer RTT and the validation of patient pathways.
The post holder will also provide a senior point of contact to A&C staff, enabling 
patients to receive treatment in accordance with the NHS Constitution and the Health 
and Social Care Bill 2011. The post holder will work closely with clinical and nursing 
leads to ensure a high standard of patient care is delivered within clinical 
directorates, in line with the Trust policy and standard operating procedures

Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Service Manager, General Manager, and Gynaecology Leads with health promotion within the programme.
  • To be able to provide patients with information in an empathetic and sympathetic way.
  • To ensure, where applicable, that any changes to the administrative 
    processes which may impact on the clinical areas are disseminated effectively and timely to the various clinical teams.
  • To support and implement changes within the administrative team as directed by the senior management team.
  • To provide patients with advice regarding the administrative processes of the Gynaecology Service as and when required
    Responsibility for leading and managing
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff to ensure they are kept up to date with divisional business plans and operational requirements
  •  Manage mandatory training levels and ensure that service records are kept up to date
  • Support the service manager to manage staff expectations particularly around changes to the service/directorate which may impact their job security
  • Ensure optimal use of staffing resources and review workforce requirements as required.
  • Ensure staff are aware and implement Trust policies and procedures and implement local guidelines, policies and procedures as appropriate
  • Ensure the administrative team in accordance with National Guidelines work effectively to comply with all Gynaecology Service targets

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge, skills and management experience
  • Previous operational management experience within the NHS or similarly complex organisation

Knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge and experience of service improvement tools and techniques.
  • A sound understanding of HR processes.
  • Proven track record of meeting significant national targets.
  • Experience of staff management, including setting objectives, team and individual appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary issues.
