Job overview

This job description is for a Senior Clinical fellow in Obstetrics at ST3+ level with a special interest in Maternity Triage. Many opportunities available for those wishing to pursue ATSMs.  The post holder will be an integral part of the general obstetrics team, working at Northwick Park Hospital.

Following the closure of the maternity unit at Ealing the obstetric workload is based at Northwick Park. This consists of mostly high-risk patients with diverse medical conditions. There are specialised clinics for diabetes, maternal medicine, haematological conditions, and multiple pregnancy. The labour ward has 98 hours consultant presence and further on call cover.  This is separate from the gynaecology consultant cover. Antenatal clinics are at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex.  There is a high-risk delivery suite with dedicated theatres, HDU, triage, observation bay and recovery unit.  There is also midwifery led ward for low-risk women and those wishing to have a water birth.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will work at Northwick Park hospital, in the Maternity department, specifically supporting triage and the implementation of BSOTS. The appointee will be able to communicate clearly with women in labour or distress to be aware of their wishes and fears, so they can be active participants in the decisions concerning their management. Help our clients understand the procedures proposed for their own safety and that of their babies.

The post holder will also support our conjoint diabetes clinic. There is no on call commitment.

Flexibility is a desired feature for any post holder.  We are a busy department and occasionally it is necessary to modify the individual timetable should there be acute and unexpected shortage of staff.  The individual job plan will be discussed in detail with the successful candidate.

The appointee will be answerable directly to Ms Saswati Maitra.
