Job overview
The Hillingdon Speech and Language Therapy department is a friendly, enthusiastic team where we strive to provide services of high quality for the diverse population of the London Borough of Hillingdon.
The service over the years has built up excellent relationships with parents, service users and the local authority. The Hillingdon paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Service is commended for continually developing their service based on evidence, feedback and innovations.
We have an opportunity for a part time band 7 speech and language therapist to work in our Early Years Team alongside our SLT Assistants
We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and innovative therapists with a special interest and knowledge of working with children with a range of difficulties, to join the Early Years team. This post will require proficient skills in the assessment and management of pre school children, as well as working with other members of the team to support junior colleges and to continue to develop the service being offered. The appointed therapist will maintain up-to-date knowledge of national guidelines and policies related to service delivery.

Main duties of the job
- To provide a highly specialist assessment and intervention service for children 0-19 with SLCN.
- To be part of the ADOS assessment team
- To provide a highly specialist assessment and intervention service to children 0-19 who have swallowing, eating and drinking difficulties- if already trained.
- To support in the development of training packages to early years settings, staff / parents / other professionals, to support identifying concerns regarding the child /young persons needs and implement therapy advice effectively.
- To be responsible for the performance management of identified team members
- To support the team leader in the leading and development of the team
- To be responsible with team leader support for service improvement initiatives.
- To deputise for the team leader in the day to day management of the team as requested.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide highly specialist assessment and intervention for children 0-19 with Speech Language and or communication needs.
- To provide a highly specialist service to children 0-19 who have swallowing, eating and drinking difficulties.
· To complete outcome focused assessments under the SEND Reforms including for EHCP’s.
· To actively support and lead service improvement work streams across the CITS service including multidisciplinary initiatives
· To actively support partnership work stream development of a partnership pathway e.g. ASD
· To work closely with the rest of the CITS services
Person specification
Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent (minimum of 2:2 or equivalent)
- Health and Care Professions Council licence to practice
- Registered member of relevant organisation eg Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and other relevant bodies
- Further training courses relevant to the post
- Dysphagia knowledge and experience
- Attendance at special interest group/ clinical excellence group
Desirable criteria
- First class honours degree or equivalent
- Successful completion of highly specialist advanced post graduate study at MSc or equivalent
- ADOS training and experience
- Completion of Dysphagia course/ competencies
Previous experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience working within paediatrics
- Experience of coordinating a highly specialist range of therapeutic interventions relevant to young people with a wide range of needs demonstrating the evidence base for these approaches
- Experience of managing junior staff and students
- Experience in educating others: carers, students, junior staff, other professionals, teachers and general public
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Management experience, undertaking delegated departmental duties at Band 6 level or above.
- Experience of working within multidisciplinary /multi-agency team. Detailed knowledge of multi-disciplinary team approaches
Desirable criteria
- Leadership of and /or [participation in a special interest group across disciplines
- Experience of leading audits
- Participation in research/evaluation of practice Knowledge of basic qualitative & quantitative research approaches and of the key elements of writing a research protocol
Skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of knowlegde of conditions such as Autism/ cerebral palsy/ sever learning disability
- Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
- Ability to clearly communicate assessment findings giving verbal and written reports that deliver complex information to carers, young people and other health professionals
- Demonstrate knowledge of standards of practice and guidelines e.g. HCPC Professional Conduct Guidelines
- Implementation of national initiatives and legislation relating to Health and Social Care in relation to children with developmental concerns and disabilities
- Knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 with regard to Special Educational Needs and Disability and other relevant health and education policy
