Job overview

A Deputy Director of Estates position is available at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves strategic and operational leadership for the Estates and Facilities function, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for patients and staff. The successful candidate will manage the Estates team, oversee financial management, and contribute to the Trust's capital projects and redevelopment plans. 

Main duties of the job

  • To provide strategic and professional leadership to the management, development and efficient utilisation of the E&FM services. 
  • To lead strategic and operational management of the E&FM services, across the Trust. 
  • To ensure that the effective delivery of the E&FM functions is undertaken in  accordance with national standards and recognised industry best practice. 
  • To provide safe, secure and high quality patient and staff environments in the Trust’s facilities. 
  • Ensure appropriate arrangements are in place to manage any outsourced contracts. 
  • To maintain and deliver a culture within the E&FM team in which all staff deliver the highest quality, patient-centred, support services.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Senior NHS, or other public sector, management experience, preferably within an E&FM role
  • Significant and demonstrable success in managing large and complex services provision contract
  • Ability to take responsibility, make decisions with information available and demonstrate leadership
  • Proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of strategic plans
  • Proven record of success, in managing operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Highly specialist knowledge across all estates and facilities with practical experience
  • Extensive knowledge of NHS healthcare buildings, systems and management.
  • Significant knowledge & experience of effective management of significant budgets
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in Estates & Facilities, or Facilities management, Masters or equivalent and evidence of CPD, or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience
  • Prince 2 project management
  • Management qualification or demonstratable experience in management position with NHS or comparable complex organisation setting
  • Extensive Knowledge and understanding of specialist NHS related practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, guidance and best practice, including HBNs and HTMs
  • Understanding of BIM and its application to operational FM management
  • Knowledge of Fire safety management systems and designs.
