Job overview

We are looking for a phlebotomist to work across both site Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon working a rota of 30 hours mon-fri, 6 hours per day between 7-5pm on rota basis (need to cover some weekends and bank holiday)

Main duties of the job

To perform venepuncture and veneole (capillary sampling) blood collection procedures

(the piercing/puncturing of veins or the slicing of veneoles, which are both invasive and

clinical procedures). To extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the

blood sample suitable/fit for analytical//therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Criteria

Essential criteria
  • Certificate of Competence in Phlebotomy
  • Venepuncture experience based within a busy phlebotomy department or equivalent unit.
  • Thorough understanding of venepuncture techniques and practices including knowledge of relevant anatomy & physiology, infection control and health & safety issues surrounding the practice
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ or other recognised qualification in a related area
  • Previous experience of working within a healthcare setting.
