Job overview
The IPC Lead for Redevelopment will play a pivotal role in embedding infection prevention and control principles throughout the hospital redevelopment project. This role ensures that IPC is integrated into all aspects of design, planning, and operational readiness, in line with NHS guidance, Hospital 2.0 principles, and lessons learned from recent national and local experience. The postholder will provide expert input into the Target Operating Model (TOM) and Outline Business Case (OBC), lead the creation of a Redevelopment IPC Strategy and support the delivery of a safe, modern, and resilient healthcare environment.
Main duties of the job
1. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The post holder shall be responsible for the following duties:
Strategic Leadership:
· Lead the development and implementation of a standalone IPC strategy specific to the redevelopment, ensuring alignment with national guidance and Hospital 2.0 principles.
· Provide expert IPC input into the TOM and OBC, embedding IPC considerations across design, operations, and clinical pathways.
· Ensure the IPC strategy reflects lessons learned from COVID-19, national inquiries, and updated NHS IPC guidance.
Governance and Accountability:
· Define and contribute to governance structures for IPC decision-making within the redevelopment programme.
· Act as the named IPC lead for the project, with clear responsibilities for risk assessment, mitigation, and assurance.
· Attend all Clinical and Operational Working Group meetings during RIBA stages 2 and 3, as well as relevant user groups and planning sessions.
Risk-Based Approach:
· Shift the focus from compliance-based to risk-based IPC, beginning risk identification at project inception and embedding it throughout design and planning.
· Conduct gap analyses to ensure sufficient IPC expertise and capacity are available for the project.
