Job overview

The Women’s Health Hub Consultant will provide consultant-level clinical leadership and specialist care within the community-based gynaecology service at the Ivy Centre, St Leonard’s Hospital. The role supports the delivery of non-urgent and low-complexity gynaecological care closer to home for residents of City and Hackney, working within an integrated hub and spoke model alongside GPwSIs, advanced practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will contribute to improving access to community gynaecology services, reducing demand on secondary care pathways, and ensuring patients receive timely assessment and management within an outpatient setting. The role includes delivering outpatient clinics, triage and specialist consultations, supporting the development of specialist interest services, and contributing to clinical governance and service development.

Clinical supervision of trainees and other clinicians will be provided within routine clinical sessions and multidisciplinary team meetings. The post holder will also support advice and guidance to primary care colleagues where required and contribute to the continued development of integrated women’s health services across the local system.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Deliver consultant-led outpatient clinics within the Women’s Health Hub, including general and specialist gynaecology clinics.

  • Provide clinical triage of referrals and manage follow-up or paper clinics to support timely patient pathways.

  • Deliver special interest services aligned with service needs, such as menopause, reproductive endocrinology, menstrual health, complex contraception or adolescent gynaecology.

  • Provide clinical supervision and support to trainees, GPwSIs and other clinicians within clinical sessions and multidisciplinary team meetings.

  • Participate in the Women’s Health Hub MDT, contributing to collaborative decision-making and patient management.

  • Support the development of community gynaecology pathways and work collaboratively with secondary care services to ensure appropriate patient flow between services.

  • Provide clinical advice and support to primary care colleagues, including GPwSIs and primary care network teams where required.

  • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, audit and service development activities within the Women’s Health Hub.

  • Work closely with the clinical lead and senior management team to support service performance, patient access and waiting time improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in teaching and training activities for junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals where appropriate.
