Job overview

Homerton University Hospital is seeking to appoint three Specialist Registrars / Clinical Fellows in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join our busy, supportive, and expanding department.

We are looking for doctors with at least two years of NHS experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, successful completion of the MRCOG Part 1 examination, and a strong desire to pursue a career in the specialty — either through application for a national training number or via the CESR route. We have an excellent track record of supporting clinical fellows to progress via both pathways.

Our department of 16 Consultants, 4 post-CCT Fellows, 17 Registrars/Clinical Fellows, and 16 junior doctors provides approximately 6,000 births per year and delivers a wide range of specialist services, including maternal medicine, perinatal psychiatry, fetal medicine, fertility, and advanced gynaecology. The recent opening of our New Elective Centre has expanded surgical capacity, offering enhanced training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

This post is offered on a full-time basis (40 hours per week) as an initial 12‑month contract, with the possibility of extension. A review will take place after one year to ensure that sessional commitments continue to meet the needs of the service.

The successful candidates will work on a 17-week rolling rota and undertake a broad range of activities, including:

  • Obstetrics on-call (day and night)

  • Gynaecology on-call (day and night)

  • Emergency Obstetric Unit daytime cover

  • Elective Caesarean section lists

  • Antenatal clinics

  • Gynaecology clinics

  • Gynaecology theatre lists
