Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the Fire safety manager in establishing a comprehensive fire safety management system across the organisation. This role involves building key working relationships both internally and externally, and ensuring the Trust meets its statutory obligations in respect of fire safety and conducting the portfolio of fire risk assessments.

You will contribute to the delivery of the Fire Strategies, including supporting policies, protocols, and procedures across all Trust sites. Your responsibilities will include developing guidance and codes of practice to implement the Fire Safety and Security Management Policies effectively.

This role will offer training courses to further knowledge in fire risk assessments and fire engineering.

Main duties of the job

 

  1. Provide professional advice and support on issues relating to fire safety. Maintain and develop specialist knowledge on relevant legislation and guidance.

 

  1. Support the Trust fire safety manager in the development, dissemination and implementation of the Trust Fire Safety Policy and associated fire safety management system. Work with operational managers to ensure that fire safety is managed in line with the Trust Fire Safety Policy.

 

  1. Provide the interpretation and application of the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Regulations Approved Document B, HTM ‘Firecode’, Trust Fire Safety Policy and other official guidance and legislation in respect of fire safety in NHS premises. Ensure fire safety statutory compliance is co-ordinated and maintained.

 

  1. Deliver the Trust Fire safety management system to provide for fire safety assurance and the development of a longer term fire safety strategic objectives.

 

  1. Deliver the programme of fire risk assessments of premises as required by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Undertake or lead fire risk assessments including within specialist areas as required. Ensure the dissemination and practical application of fire risk assessments to operational leads and staff with specific fire responsibilities.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. 

Starting with Us

NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or HNC/HND plus additional education to degree level, or able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge
  • Evidence of a good general education
Desirable criteria
  • Incorporated Membership of relevant professional body such as IFE or an equivalent level of experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and to regularly undertake R & D activities. Willingness to undergo further training.
  • Recognised qualifications relating to fire safety (e.g. level 4 Diploma Fire Risk assessment) or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience of building or engineering services siteworks or fire experience
  • Experience in providing technical direction with regard to fire safety management
  • Fire safety legislation, guidance and fire safety management processes

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of Building Engineering Services and or construction
  • Ability to liaise with external agencies i.e., Fire and Rescue Services, Health & Safety Executive, Local Authority Planners
