Diabetic Specialist Nurse

The post holder will be part of the Maternity Diabetes Specialist Service providing Diabetes Care and Management to pregnant women /people and their family.

 

This is a dynamic post that requires the post holder to work closely with multi-disciplinary team in addressing a range of care to women/people with Diabetes in pregnancy with special interest in Insulin Pump for Type 1 Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and improving the health and wellbeing of women and their babies.

Be competent as appropriate to the requirements of the role of Diabetes Specialist Nurse.

Demonstrate at all times the Trust Values.

Be a Registered First Level Nurse with current NMC Registration and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge. They will be a specialist practitioner and have a focus in Diabetes care with good knowledge of technological advances in Diabetes.

Be responsible for a defined population of service users in a variety of settings across the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust.  (This role is based at West Middlesex Site , not cross site )

  • Evidence of Continuing professional development and education
  • Post graduate studies in Diabetes care and management

  • Experience caring for women / people with diabetes or gestational diabetes
  • Leadership/management qualification

Experience

  • Experience in mentoring students and in being a sign off mentor
  • Experience and participation in research and audit and dissemination of findings
  • Participate in risk management and investigations

  • Demonstrable experience in working with clients with diabetes and gestational diabetes
  • Attendance at relevant Diabetes groups or networks
