Job overview
The opportunity has arisen for a Pre-assessment Lead Nurse in Endoscopy at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, West Middlesex University Hospital Site.

Main duties of the job
Oversee and coordinate the Endoscopy Pre-Assessment Service at the WM site, ensuring high standards of patient care within the pre-assessment setting, while taking full responsibility for service delivery and team leadership.
Support the Endoscopy Lead Nurse in the management of the service and in the provision of a high quality cost effective care demonstrating PROUD values. S/he will be expected to provide an effective leadership working closely with the nursing team as well as the Consultants and MDT colleagues whilst demonstrating the values.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to:
- Be responsible in delivering an efficient and effective pre assessment service and lead on its development.
- Coordinate and host telephone and face to face pre assessment clinics for patients requiring endoscopy procedures and address any issues that may arise prior to the patient attending.
- Provide a high level of clinical practice / decision making and autonomy within the Pre Assessment service.
- To manage and control resources required to provide a high quality endoscopy service.
- Conducting comprehensive pre-assessments of patients scheduled for Endoscopy procedures including interventional such as ERCP, EUS, Stent insertions, dilations and high-risk procedures etc.
- To be responsible for the booking of the interventional procedures such as ERCP, EUS, stenting, dilatation etc and work closely with the interventional team.
- To support Endoscopy in maintaining the Joint advisory Group’s (JAG) KPIs, guidelines and accreditation.
- Ensuring accurate documentation of patient assessments and relevant medical history
- To ensure that clinical risk assessment is performed in line with the trust risk assessment process prior to admission and the information is used pro-actively.
- To ensure that standards and waiting times are met in order to provide a quality service to patients, relatives and carers and are in accordance with Trust targets.
- Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including bowel preparation and prescribe bowel preparation under the patient’s group directive (PGD).
- To maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, being aware of hazards and that appropriate action is taken as necessary.
- Ability to discuss all endoscopic procedures through with the patient, so they are fully informed of what the procedure entails.
- Be familiar with the risks and benefits of endoscopic procedures, and discussing these with the patient in order for the patient to make an informed decision regarding treatment. Acting as the patient advocate supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages of the process
- To establish an effective communication network with the multidisciplinary team as well as with patients, relatives and other departments. To work in collaboration with the wards and departments especially the Endoscopy Decontamination Unit (EDU).
- To contribute to the Clinical Governance Agenda, ensuring all practice is evidence based and all practice is monitored by audit.
- To facilitate safe discharge planning ensuring safe information and follow up using specialist knowledge of endoscopic procedures, their risks and recovery.
- To regularly set the agenda based on information received via the nursing structure of departmental meetings to update staff on developments and information and discuss local and other relevant issues.
