Consultant Haematologist
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
An exciting new opportunity has come up to join the Haematology Team at West Middlesex Site.
The post holder will have an opportunity to develop their own sub speciality interest. The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care to patients with Haematological conditions.
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK. Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job
This post is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Clinical Haematologist to join a dynamic, friendly, and forward-looking Acute Hospital Trust in West London. West Middlesex University Hospital has been designated a major site following the recent consultation process for North West Thames. The successful appointee would be expected to work with the well-established team to deliver general laboratory, general inpatient, and outpatient and haemato-oncology services.
Out-patient work
The number of outpatient clinics will be determined in discussion with the post-holder. The mix of patients are typical of large general hospital, including those with haematological malignancies (lymphomas, chronic leukaemias, myeloma etc), general haematology (anaemias, myeloproliferative disorders, immune-mediated cytopenias, disorders of iron metabolism), haemoglobinopathies (predominantly sickle cell disease), and patients with venous thromboembolic disease and thrombophilia.
Working for our organisation
We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.
We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.
Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.
Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
