Specialist Grade Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialist Grade

Job overview

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Specialist Grade Doctor with a special interest in Colposcopy and Vulval Disease to join our dedicated team.

In this role, you’ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality care across a broad spectrum of women’s health services. Your responsibilities will include leading 2-week wait (2WW) and general gynaecology clinics, contributing your expertise to our established colposcopy and vulval services, and supporting gynaecology operating lists—with the opportunity to independently lead these lists in the future.

You’ll also be involved in the senior registrar and on-call rotas, including a fixed night shift every other week, and provide specialist input to our Maternity Triage and Maternity Day Assessment Unit, particularly for high-risk patients.

This is a 12-month post with potential for extension to a permanent position. We are committed to your professional development and will support your progression towards a consultant role through tailored training and mentorship.

Main duties of the job

  • Colposcopy & Vulval Disease: Independently perform colposcopic assessments, cervical biopsies, and LLETZ procedures. Provide expert care in vulval clinics and actively contribute to MDT meetings and service development.

  • Rapid Access & General Gynaecology Clinics: Deliver care in 2WW and general gynaecology clinics under consultant supervision. Manage patient lists and clinic administration, including GP communications and result follow-up.

  • Maternity Triage & Day Assessment Unit: Offer senior-level expertise in managing high-risk women using the BSOTS framework. Support complex decision-making in the Day Assessment Unit.

  • Elective Caesarean Sections & Gynaecology Theatres: Assist in elective caesarean sections and gynaecology operations, including pre- and post-operative care and inpatient follow-up.

  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, participate in case reviews, and communicate effectively with patients and families.

  • Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement: Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge, engage in audits, and contribute to protocol development to enhance service quality.
