Due to staff relocation, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a  Band 6 acute Speech and Language Therapist, at West Middlesex University Hospital.  We are looking for someone with specialist clinical knowledge and skills, who is enthusiastic about service promotion and development.

The adult service offers regular site specific and cross-site full department meetings. There is consistent access to formal and informal supervision, CPD, as well as, regular peer support and supervision.

The role is based on the acute wards at West Middlesex University Hospital and provides excellent opportunities for on-going personal and professional development. We are looking for someone who has experience with Videofluoroscopy and / or tracheostomy, but full support for competencies and training will be provided where needed.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to manage a complex SLT caseload independently, providing second opinions and advice for junior staff when required.  They will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be expected to work collaboratively with patients, carers, and colleagues, the voluntary sector and Social Services in regards to the planning and delivery of care.

Provision of specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and management to adult inpatients, based on the acute wards at West Middlesex University Hospital.

  • Current HCPC registration
  • Current RCSLT registration

  • 2 years post graduate experience relevant to the post

Experience

  • Experience working within a Multidisciplinary Team
  • Experience with service development and service evaluation
  • Experience providing teaching and training for members of the MDT, patients, families etc.
  • Experience using evidence based practice and outcome measures
  • Experience providing complex specialist dysphagia assessment and management
  • Experience providing complex specialist communication assessment and management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with Videofluoroscopy, with evidence of the relevant competencies

  • Specialist assessment and management knowledge for adults with complex dysphagia
  • Specialist assessment and management knowledge for adults with complex communication and / or voice impairment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a highly emotive clinical setting
  • Ability to identify and assess clinical risk accordingly
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication
