Job overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Special School Nursing Team within the borough of Brent for a fixed term contract from September 2025 to the end of March 2026. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic Special School Nurses (Band 6) who are looking to develop their skills in the largest community healthcare trust in London.
The Special School Nursing Team are looking for caring individuals to work within a team supporting children and young people from 4-19 years who have a range of learning disabilities and complex health needs. The nursing team works closely with education and other agencies to ensure the children achieve their full potential in school.
You will be experienced registered nurses, trained in children's nursing, adult nursing or learning disability nursing, and have up to date clinical nursing skills to care for children with complex health needs such as epilepsy, enteral feeding, and administration of medications. You will have excellent communication skills, be flexible to the needs of the children and the service and have good organisational skills. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding and be confident in delivering training to school staff and carers.

Main duties of the job
Care planning, undertaking assessments, engagement in medical clinics, delivering clinical care, management of medications, safeguarding, delivering training and support to education staff, parents and students.
You will be part of a Special School Nursing Team working across 4 special schools in Brent and be part of a wider network of special school nursing teams across CLCH.

Essential criteria
- RSCN or RN(Child) or LD or RGN
- Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
- Evidence of post registration education and training
Desirable criteria
- School Nursing or Community Nursing /Specialist Practitioner Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Acute paediatric experience, caring for children with complex health needs
- Experience of delivering teaching/training
- Experience of working with students
- Experience of working in a multi-professional team to safeguard children
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a Special Needs School
- Experience of Health Promotion/Public Health
- Experience of safeguarding children with special needs
- Experience of immunisation
- Experience of managing staff
- Experience of working as a School Nurse or a Children’s Community Nurse
Skills and knowledge
