Job overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management will be expected to support the pain service and act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the professional team, and patients within the service.
The post holder will be required to be accountable and responsible for the management of patients within their care and to work in close collaboration with the lead clinician within established guidelines and protocols.
The applicant should be a registered adult nurse educated to first degree in a health related subject.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be responsible for the following:
- To manage a caseload of patients with acute and chronic pain
- To provide highly specialist advice on pain management
- Act as a resource for health care professionals
- To understand PCA, Epidurals and Nerve blocks
- To undertake daily specialist ward rounds
- To provide holistic assessments, plan and conduct pain treatments
- To act as an advocate for patients
- To participate and contribute in meetings
- To be a skilled communicator and be able to work in a team

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse
- Relevant post registration course
- Educated to masters level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Independent Nurse Prescriber (NIP)
- Post-basic qualification in pain management (CPD) (or be willing to undertake)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant years of post registration nursing experience within the acute setting.
- Experience of mentoring and facilitating students and other clinical staff
- Previous experience of working in ITU or Theatre recovery or pain management service.
- An understanding of the audit process
Desirable criteria
- Experience of audit and research

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
