Job overview

An enthusiastic and self-motivated dietitian is required to join the dynamic and friendly dietetic team at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will work as part of the acute dietetic team covering busy medical, respiratory and care of the elderly wards. The caseload also includes running a weekly outpatient clinic on site. This post is part of a Band 5 rotational programme, and the successful applicant will also have the opportunity to complete the other rotation.

 The dietetic department comprises of 23 dietitians working in acute and primary care settings. The Trust’s nutrition and dietetic service has a strong commitment to professional and personal development. There are well defined CPD and clinical supervision models in place to support the successful applicant. The service is also actively involved in student training, and you will be expected to contribute to the student training programmes. 

Main duties of the job

1.      To provide a comprehensive dietetic service to the acute assessment unit, general medical, respiratory and care of the elderly wards.

2.      To be responsible for a weekly general dietetic out-patient clinic, treating a wide variety of conditions.

3.      To shadow the dietitian working on the Stroke Unit and provide cover in their absence.

4.      The dietitian will spend > 80% of their time working on their clinical caseloads.

5.      They will undertake comprehensive assessments of patients’ diets and lifestyles to formulate individualised management and treatment plans.  These assessments will include interpreting biochemical data and qualitative/quantitative analysis of nutritional information.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Nutrition & Dietetics or BSc in relevant Science plus post graduate diploma in Dietetics
  • HCPC Registered dietitian
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BDA

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Successful completion of student training
  • Trained or worked within the NHS
  • Experience of running out-patient clinics independently
  • Experience of managing an acute inpatient caseload independently.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of general dietetics
  • Sound knowledge of enteral and oral nutrition support
  • The meaning and practice of Clinical Governance, audit, and standards
