Job overview
The Housekeeper plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the ED. This position supports the clinical team by ensuring hygiene standards are upheld, equipment is maintained and cleaned according to policy, and supplies are appropriately managed. The housekeeper also contributes to patient care by assisting with meal service and supporting effective communication between patients, staff, and visitors.
Main duties of the job
The housekeeper will work with the Nurse in Charge of the unit ensuring that all visitors are welcomed and that excellence in customer care and front of house services are provided. This role will support nursing staff but will not replace supplement domestic services, but enhance patient experience overall. The post holder will work as an integral part of the unit team, being responsible for ensuring the delivery of a range of activities to support the clinical team in delivering care, including keeping the unit neat, tidy, uncluttered and well presented; the daily stock of clinical supplies and for equipment cleaning and maintenance. They will be responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable ward environment and will work flexibly.
