Job overview

Kingston Hospital is looking for caring, enthusiastic, and talented midwives to join our team. We have opportunities for junior (Band 5) and senior midwives (Band 6) to join our Maternity Team.

Kingston Maternity is a friendly, welcoming and supportive unit, and a popular choice for our local population, caring for around 4600 birthing people per annum. We are proud to support a full range of birth options including our established birth centre and home birth teams. Our service is funded to a ratio of 1 midwife to 22 women, enabling high quality, midwifery focused care to be provided. The birth centre team are skilled in aromatherapy, and biomechanics and the rooms have birthing couches and pools. We promote a philosophy of holistic, woman-centred care in all birthing areas.

Band 5 Midwives

Kingston Maternity service has an outstanding and supportive preceptorship programme. There is a dynamic and experienced practice development team who are readily available to help and support you during your clinical shifts and in your professional development. The feedback from newly qualified midwives is that the whole team is supportive with visible and accessible team leaders, professional midwifery advocates, core midwives, and ensure consolidation of your learning. When you have completed your preceptorship, you will have access to the post preceptorship programme to support your transition from a band 5 to a band 6 midwife which is tailored to your individual needs.

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of woman focused care in accordance with Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures across all clinical areas as required.

Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of maternity care for women ensuring accurate documentation is kept.

Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

Communicate with women and their partners to ensure they have access to appropriate information.

Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the woman.

Act in accordance with the Nursing and midwifery Council Code of Conduct

Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands.

Education and Training

Kingston is proud of its strong multi-disciplinary (MDT) culture. We provide a well evaluated, in-house MDT programme and staff have the opportunity to attend external study days or enrol for academic modules at our local higher education institutes.

To provide woman and babies with high quality, safe midwifery care during childbirth. The care will be evidence based and holistic in meeting women’s needs in a variety of practice settings.
