Job overview

The Royal Marsden has a well-established partnership with Kingston Hospital to provide a range of oncological services with the Trusts jointly investing in the development of the Sir William Rous Unit (SWRU) in 2008. The SWRU is home to the Kingston Medical Day Unit, staffed and run by Royal Marsden staff but very much integrated with Kingston Hospital, the unit delivers treatment to patients from a range of tumour groups including Breast, GI, Urology and Lung.   

Main duties of the job

•    Provide excellent day to day clinical care for patients attending the Medical Day Unit under the care of specific consultants specialising in Upper and Lower Gastro-Intestinal Cancer, Lung, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer    
•    Medically assess patients for their fitness for treatment and arrange appropriate routine investigations   
•    Ensure that the Medical Consultants are kept informed of their patients progress at all times   
•    Prescribe systemic oncology treatments as per the consultant’s treatment plan for individual patients   
•    Provide information regarding disease management, treatment side effects for patients and their families   
•    Contribute to, and where appropriate lead, outpatient and prescription clinics   
•    Take informed consent for all patients undergoing systemic treatment   
•    Maintain an excellent standard of documentation to ensure that patient information is

Essential criteria
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications.
  • Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council. (Or eligible for GMC registration)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based experience in oncology, including systemic therapies, at SpR level or equivalent
  • Four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty (or equivalent experience and competencies).
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in clinical and translational research
