Job overview
We are looking to recruit an individual with lived experience of mental distress to fulfil a role as a Peer Digital Engagement Officer. They must possess excellent digital and ICT skills, along with experience of teaching formally or informally ICT skills to individuals and groups.
They will have strong communication skills and be fully motivated to empower service users to achieve their goals.
Main duties of the job
The Peer Digital Engagement Officer will offer comprehensive assistance and support to service users who wish to enhance their digital / ICT skills. This will involve managing a digital learners group and supporting service users on an individual basis. The Officer will also support the Digital Assistant and will also play a leading role supporting learner needs with online training courses.
Working for our organisation
The project is called Digi-Inclusion which is part of a service user managed project called Vocation Matters. This service provides vocational information and support to service users within the borough of Lambeth and is fully integrated into Lambeth Vocational Services.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1) To proactively manage a caseload of up to 15 individuals at any one time, and a learner group
2) To recruit a Digital Assistant to work with the digital learner group
3) To recruit service users to attend digital groups four times per year
4) To facilitate an effective peer support process that supports service users to enhance their ICT and digital skills
5) Attending external ICT providers with service users as and when required
6) Helping service users to disclose their health needs to ICT providers
7) Supporting individual learner needs whilst completing online training
8) To record all information accurately on vocational databases on a daily basis
9) To participate in service evaluation when necessary
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good basic level of education with at least 5 GCSE grades A to C (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics, or relevant qualifications at NVQ level 3 or relevant industry experience
- A recognised qualification in ICT: ITQ, ECDL OR significant experience using ICT skills- data entry, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience
Essential criteria
- Personal experience of using mental health services
- Experience of working with individuals with mental health needs or other excluded populations within health, social care, education / training or the voluntary sector
- Experience of supporting vulnerable individuals with ICT / digital and education needs
- Experience of working within an inner city environment and working with a diverse population
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of peer support theories and practice
- Working knowledge of the barriers encountered by individuals with mental health needs when accessing ICT and education opportunities
- Knowledge of equality and diversity policies and practise
- Knowledge of mental health systems locally and nationally
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work in a person-centred way when assisting service users with their ICT / digital and learner needs
- Ability to develop effective working partnerships with service users and other ICT providers using excellent communication skills
- Ability to negotiate and advocate as and when necessary
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
