Job overview

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to provide clinical leadership to promote consistent quality and best practice on the wards and within Heather Close rehabilitation Service, The post holder will be  a resource to the Occupational therapists as well as the MDT and colleagues in clinical leadership and Governance, and to align closely with Discharge coordinators to develop robust person centred Recovery focussed pathways into the community.

Main duties of the job

·       To work with the Head of Occupational Therapy to lead on the planning, coordination and delivery of Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions within the Lewisham Directorate.

·       To provide Leadership and support to the MDT to encourage therapeutic outcomes via the use of Activity and development of an integrated Therapeutic programme

·       To have clinical input through group work or individual complex cases and Use evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupationally focused interventions for adults within the acute or rehabilitation service.

We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.

SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       To provide professional supervision to Occupational Therapists working on the inpatient wards, so as to monitor and implement professional standards of practice including input to staff appraisal and continuing professional development. 

·       To liaise with colleagues across relevant services in Lewisham borough and establish systems that promote effective communication and best access to recovery pathways across the borough.

·       To provide clinical leadership for junior staff, students and volunteers through supervision and training as well as preceptorship.

·       To provide training and consultancy for occupationally focused interventions within the Directorate and provide an expert view when developing new ways of working and reviewing models of care and

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered OT
  • post graduate training related to specialist interventions

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years post registration experience working with Mental Health service users at Band 6 level
  • Leadership and/or first line management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an inner city, multicultural environment

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • High level understanding of Mental Health disorders and treatment models
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles or risk assessment and risk management
  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT and generic assessments, outcome measures and interventions relevant to client group
  • Evidence of knowledge and application of service user and carer involvement
  • Ability to analyse and resolve professional and ethical issues
