An opportunity has arisen for a full-time MacMillan Upper GI Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Gastroenterology CNS team at Whipps Cross University Hospital.
This post will suit an experienced, highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist with the ability to organise their clinical workload and work autonomously as part of the multidisciplinary team.
This post holder will develop positive and collaborative working relationships which are qualities integral to this role and in providing the highest standard of care and support to patients with an upper GI cancer diagnosis
You will be able to provide expert care and advice to deliver services reflecting the needs of patients with Upper GI and Hepatobiliary cancer throughout the patient pathway.
You will have the ability to manage distressing situations involving patients and carers acting as a key worker during the complexities of the patient pathway.
The post-holder will continue to develop and provide Nurse-Led clinics for patients presenting with new onset jaundice, Upper GI, hepatobiliary cancer and also post-operative Upper GI Surgical patients.
We can offer a supportive environment within an experienced, well established Gastroenterology Specialist Nursing team.

• The Upper GI cancer CNS's key role is to provide care to patients with Upper GI cancer. The specialist nurse will acquire specialist knowledge to enable them to give advice in symptom control, emotional and psychological support.
• To continue to develop, implement and evaluate a seamless clinical nurse specialist service in upper GI and hepatobiliary cancer, ensuring that both inpatients and outpatients receive the highest standard of clinical care, and have access to a fully comprehensive support service.
• The clinical nurse specialist for Upper GI cancers will influence patient care through clinical practice, management, leadership, education, research, audit and professional activities considering corporate and directorate objectives and the clinical governance framework.
• To act as a resource for teaching and educating patients and staff

- An experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist with at least 2 years’ experience of being in a clinical nurse specialist role.
- Registered nurse, demonstrate competence and professional development at band 6 or band 7 in Gastroenterology and cancer care.
- Evidence of specialist knowledge in Upper GI and Hepatobiliary cancer
- Experience in prioritising and managing own clinical caseload independently.
- Good working knowledge of treatment of GI and hepatobiliary cancers from diagnosis through to end-of-life treatment

- Accredited oncology course Level 2 psychology training
- Advanced communication course
- Previous CNS experience in UGI/HPB or an unrelated/related field
- Show willingness to lead on clinical trials
- Experience in management and leadership to lead a team where necessary on service development and improvements.
Skills

- Ability to work on an agreed timescale with excellent organisational skills
- Experience in managing nurse-led clinics.
- Have excellent communication skills, verbal writing and IT
