We seek a Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiothoracic Perioperative Medicine to start as soon as possible. This opportunity is perfect for those seeking a career in intensive care medicine, anaesthesia, cardiothoracic surgery or cardiology. Experience in ultrasound and echocardiography is desirable.

 

This fellowship will provide successful applicants with training and experience in research methodology and contrast-enhanced renal ultrasound. The perioperative medicine department at St. Bartholomew's Hospital is actively enhancing its research capabilities and participating in various projects and clinical trials.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to assist in advancing the department's research initiatives.

The position does not have scheduled clinical responsibilities. Nevertheless, clinical training opportunities may be offered based on the candidate's interests and will align with the research project.

 

Main duties of the job

The fellowship aims to train individuals in advanced imaging techniques, including contrast-enhanced renal ultrasound. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience in advanced cardiothoracic perioperative medicine.

The fellow will have the opportunity to gain research training, clinical experience,clinical leadership, and education skills.

They will be exposed to the range of cardiovascular pathologies encountered in the Barts Heart Centre.


The fellow will be encouraged to attend the educational programme, including a weekly core knowledge course and, where feasible, radiology and echocardiography review meetings.

They will be encouraged to participate in relevant national
conferences during the fellowship.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The fellow's main duties include screening, consenting, and recruiting patients for ongoing research studies. They are also expected to perform contrast-enhanced renal ultrasound scans on the recruited patients. All paperwork required by the regulatory authorities will be maintained by them. Additionally, the fellow will be expected to analyse the resultant data and present the results at local, national, and international meetings. They will also take the lead on any resultant manuscripts.

 The fellow will further contribute to the wider research activities within the department and participate in educational activities related to echocardiography and ultrasound.

Essential criteria
  • GMC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in critical care, perioperative medicine, anaesthesia, cardiothoracic surgery or cardiology
  • Experience in echocardiography/ultrasound
  • Research experience
  • ALS or equivalent

Research and Developement

  • Understanding and knowledge of research and ability to interpret research papers
  • Good Clinical Practice training
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in critical care journals or in areas of special interest

Teaching and Training

  • Experience in teaching
