Job overview

Are you looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 adult trained Sister/ Charge Nurse to join the Haemophilia team at The Royal London Hospital. This job is a full time post and would suit a dynamic and motivated individual. The post would provide fantastic learning and the opportunity to work within one of London’s leading Haemophilia centres. The post holder will be able to expand their nursing skills, while gaining a wealth of experience in the management of bleeding disorders. The position would be ideal for a band 5 looking to step up, or an existing band 6 looking for a change of direction.

The Royal London Haemophilia Centre is a comprehensive care centre based in Whitechapel, looking after the  complex  needs of  around  2300  patients  living locally and up to 60 miles away to the east and north east. Patients have both inherited and acquired bleeding disorders of all severities, with the local diverse population providing both very rare and challenging bleeding conditions. The centre cares for patients of all ages from birth to end of life, and requires an aptitude to deliver high quality, comprehensive care in a variety of environments including inpatient (across all sites), outpatient, day case, and community.  

Main duties of the job

The post involves the provision of assessment and management of care for patients with haemophilia and related inherited bleeding disorders and their families including where this could be based in the community. Care management would be in collaboration with a doctor, Haemophilia Lead Nurse or clinical nurse specialists, in the in-patient, out-patient and community setting. There will be paediatric and adult input required. Working alongside the consultants, specialist registrar, clinical nurse specialists and physiotherapist, the post holder will treat patients within the day care setting and will manage a community based caseload, depending on level of experience and training received. They will play an important role within the multidisciplinary team in educating and supporting families. They will also act as a source of specialised advice and information for hospital based staff. The post holder will be encouraged to develop their own areas of interest to take forward to benefit the service, with support from senior team members.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level Registered Nurse Adult or dual trained (with the NMC).
  • Relevant educational/ training qualification/certificate/experience.
Desirable criteria
  • BSc or Masters level education or working towards it
  • Up to date with GCP research training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience at Band 5 or above working within a clinical specialist environment
  • Experience of clinical audit and introducing quality measures
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience within clinical haematology

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of utilisation of research/evidenced based practice
  • Basic understanding of inherited bleeding disorder such as Haemophlia, von Willebrand disease, clotting factor deficencies.
Desirable criteria
  • A basic overview of the history of inherited bleeding disorders in the UK.
