Job overview

The CDC is part of wider programme to reform and renew the delivery of diagnostics to meet increasing demand for services. CDC's will facilitate patients having their diagnostic tests performed closer to home & within the local community & is open for 12 hours a day over 7 days a week

The north-east London (NEL) community diagnosis centre service provision is anticipated to include the following services: 

·         Targeted lung health check screening programme (TLHC)

·         Prostate screening programme

·         General Ultrasound service

·         Cardiac Imaging

·         Cardiorespiratory Diagnostics

We are seeking a motivated individuals to work in the cardiorespiratory diagnostics service in the CDC at Mile End Hospital, with regular rotation to other sites. You will be required to work autonomously (will be trained, dependent on background experience) across the service.

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing - supporting unexplained breathlessness service.

Non-invasive cardiology - Ambulatory Monitors and electrocardiography.

·        Lung function testing – Spirometry, reversibility, gas transfer, FeNO testing

Applications from candidates who have a BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent) with a cardiology or respiratory specialism, or those from Cardiac or Respiratory physiology & with a relevant Exercise Science background will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a key member of the non-invasive services at CDC, focusing on supporting the cardiorespiratory service. The service will run 12 hours a day across 7 day, therefore the successful candidate will do 12 hour shifts on any of these days.

The aim role is to support the non-invasive cardiology and lung function services within the Trust sites, there will be an opportunity to be involved in cardiopulmonary based research/audit projects. There will also be the opportunity to be involved in quality assurance within these services. Depending on background specialism, training will be provided in cardiology or respiratory to develop skills across the breath of cardiorespiratory physiology services.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent (BSc in Exercise Sciences / Physiology).
  • Basic Life Support
  • Registered or working towards registration with the Academy for healthcare Science (AHCS) and/or HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Immediate Life Support
  • Good clinical practice
  • Attendance at ARTP or other recognised CPET interpretation course
  • ECG Interpretation (SCST exam)
  • Spirometry certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience conducting clinical cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
  • Experience conducting spirometry testing.
  • Experience conducting clinical treadmill exercise tolerance testing.
  • Experience of non-invasive cardiology investigations - ECG, ambulatory ECG
Desirable criteria
  • Experience conducting full lung function testing
  • Experience conducting and reporting CPET combined with stress echocardiography
  • Experience of training junior members of staff

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the data protection act and an understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge and understanding of Equal Opportunity and diversity issues
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of a Millennium (patient appointment system) or similar system
