We have available a 10 PA consultant gastroenterology post at Barts Health, Royal London Hospital. This will be based mainly at Royal London Hospital with some endoscopy activity at Mile End Hospital and Barts Hospital.
We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and motivated Consultant to join our team of gastroenterology and hepatology consultants and HPB endoscopists.
This is a new post to join the existing gastroenterology service with a specific remit to further develop the ERCP/EUS and HPB Medicine service in Barts Health and across the NEL region. This post is to provide additional capacity for our expanding HPB service.
Main duties of the job
We welcome applications from established consultants and senior trainees who will be within six months of completion of specialist training at the time of the Advisory Appointments Committee.
Applicants must have completed specialist training in gastroenterology and have entered on the GMC Specialist Register prior to taking up the appointment.
As with all gastroenterology consultants in the Royal London Hospital, the job plan includes some weekend working.
The post holders will work alongside the established gastroenterology consultants to support provision of outpatient services.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCP or Equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- CCT in Gastroenterology and G(IM) or within 6m of obtaining same
Desirable criteria
- Higher Research Degree
Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad experience in Gastroenterology clinics and ward work
- Evidence of specialist HPB Medical knowledge
- Independent in Endoscopic Ultrasound
- Independent in ERCP
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Detailed knowledge of Gastroenterology and of the specialist skills required for this post
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
- Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team – clinical and management
- Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
- Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community
- Diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI and lower GI endoscopy with evidence of KPIs
- Training skills in endoscopy
Desirable criteria
- Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
