Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 1 WTE luminal gastroenterologist at Whipps Cross Hospital, Barts health NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job
Specifically, the post holder will support provision of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general Gastroenterology problems. Furthermore, the post holder will be pursuing his/her interest in luminal gastroenterology, developing interventional endoscopy, EMR, ESD service development including colonic stenting, bowel cancer screening etc. Candidates with an interest in General Hepatology also encouraged to apply. There are MDTs in HPB medicine and General Gastroenterology together with X-ray and pathology meetings. The post holder will join our Gastroenterologists in the general medical rota on weekdays 1.27 (no Weekends). In addition, the post holder will be performing endoscopy procedures, which includes being part of the GI Bleed Rota.
During ‘consultant of the week’, scheduled activity is cancelled, and the consultant will be covering the inpatient wards, covering approximately 22 beds and gastro inpatient referrals in the hospital. During this week the consultant will also triaging suspected cancer referrals and Advice and Guidance referrals.
Gastroenterology sits within the Specialty Medicine, Division of Medicine Directorate. The Department of Gastroenterology which is a high-volume clinical specialty seeing 8000 out-patients, performing approximately 7000 endoscopic procedures and admitting approximately 500 patients annually.

The Department offers a wide range of services including nutrition, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders. The unit runs a colon capsule service as part of the National Colon Cancer screening programs. In addition, The unit is offering Cytosponge for Barretts Surveillance and colon capsule for low fit positive patients

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • MRCP or Equivalent
- • Full GMC Registration with a license to pratcise
- • CCT in Gastroenterology and G(IM) or within 6m of obtaining same
Desirable criteria
- Higher Research Degree

- • Good track record of research in a related field
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of active research with evidence of winning grants or publishing peer reviewed articles
- • Evidence of giving successful presentations
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Broad experience in Gastroenterology clinics and ward work
- • Excellent clinical skills
- • ALS certificate
Desirable criteria
- • Experience in conducting clinical trials
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Detailed knowledge of Gastroenterology and of the specialist skills required for this post
- • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
- • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
Skills
Essential criteria
- • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team – clinical and management
- • Diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI and lower GI endoscopy with evidence of KPIs
- • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff.
