Job overview

An opportunity has arisen in our Senior Leadership  Team for the role of an Interim Named Midwife for  Safeguarding.

This is an excellent opportunity to try out this leadership role. You will need to have experience in children safeguarding and be practicing at safeguarding practitioner level at Bart’s Health.

You will have knowledge of current legislation and statutory guidance relating to safeguarding as it supports women, people and children. You will need to be able to know your limitation and seek advice and guidance on any complex issues from within  the wider Bart’s health team as well as support from the Associate Director of Safeguarding.

The role also requires Leadership on operational governance working alongside the maternity quality and safety team within the area of responsibility. Furthermore, leading a small team of safeguarding midwives  who specialise in caring for vulnerable women and families.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder, as part of the safeguarding  team, will take a lead to ensure the requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) are met.  This work will incorporate the key elements of the Children Acts 1989 and 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and the Care Quality Commission Core Standards.

 

The post holder will demonstrate advanced skills and competencies to influence the pathways of care in the safeguarding of women and children, working closely with the named professions at hospital and group level to ensure that the hospital / Trust meets its statutory responsibilities to protect the welfare of children, women and families.

They will initiate and add to research evidence in the field of safeguarding to ensure that evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care.  

The post holder has continuing responsibility for the management and development of designated area of safeguarding and vulnerable women. Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates Programmes of care. Monitors and ensures maintenance of standards of care in line with Trust priorities.

Leads the design and changes of care pathways in line with agreed changes in maternity services within the areas of responsibility.
