Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced midwife to share the role of ward manager on our Antenatal & Postnatal unit (Mulberry ward) at Whipps Cross Hospital in delivering high quality services to our clients. 
We require a midwife who is passionate about providing Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal care for pregnant people/persons.

In this role you will be expected to demonstrate a passion for promoting evidence-based practice, offer women continuity of care and to support women in every part of their pregnancy journey. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible with Maternity High-Risk manager the for the efficient day to day management of the Antenatal/ Postnatal ward by ensuring that robust governance processes are in place to maximize safe, effective, high quality and innovative care is always provided. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and role model who is expected to lead their services to ensure that the patient’s experience is key and that staff have the skills and expertise in providing excellent quality care.

Essential criteria
  • Clinical management experience.
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of Midwifery theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.
  • Thorough understanding of equality and diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients within own area.
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirement of it for the practice and behavior and its application to the management of staff and self.
  • Understanding of the principles and application of Clinical Governance. An understanding of Management of COSHH and Health and Safety of patients, staff and visitors to the ward.
  • Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of midwifery knowledge and practice during working as a band 6.
Desirable criteria
  • Candidate who has worked in all areas of clinical practice

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates evidence of well-developed clinical practice.
  • Able to advise on and implement improvements to the quality and efficiency of care for patients in an area.
  • Demonstrates compassion and caring approach to women and relatives and ability to motivate staff to demonstrate this also.
  • To ensure that women’s privacy in always maintained.
  • Strong organizational skills - Able to organize own workload and take responsibility for own clinical actions and systems / standards across area of responsibility.
  • Able to accept responsibility for ward/unit working under own initiative within boundaries of role.
  • Demonstrates commitment to working as part of a team and ability to build the ward/unit

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration.
  • Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • BSc in Midwifery or able to demonstrate recent study at this level and a willingness to complete.
  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification (recognized by the NMC).
  • Post-registration qualification preferably in specialty area. Training in Managing Conduct, Health, Sickness & Performance, Recruitment & Retention Appraisal etc.
