Job overview

Within a shared governance framework, the post holder will provide direction for the future of nursing through practice development and education, reflecting the strategic changes in nursing. Through a process of work-based competencies, the post holder will provide continuing support to all grades of staff in their delivery of nursing care packages, in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and medical colleagues.    

Main duties of the job

• Assume the role of ‘Facilitator’ to the Medical Ward areas teams/staff providing support for continuing clinical and professional development in the workplace.

• Be responsible for the continuing development of evolving competency-based frameworks for Registered Nurses, Registered Nurse Associate, Apprentice Nurse Associates, and Health Care Assistants in monitoring and evaluating its effectiveness.

• Through this process of work-based competencies, the post holder will provide continuing support to all Bands of clinical staff in their delivery of nursing care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.

• Through a process of support/supervision enable the medical area’s staff/teams to assess, prescribe/develop, implement, and evaluate standards/programmes of care, providing advice and support to develop methods to evaluate care delivered where required.

• Ensure that agreed standards are followed to provide a safe environment for both patients and relatives.

• Ensure that effective communication exists between themselves, nursing colleagues, medical staff, multidisciplinary teams, patients and/or their relatives, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate.

• Facilitate and participate in research projects and use findings to change practice where appropriate.

• Deliver educational programmes in relation to Clinical Practice and Professional Development to support service delivery.

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary team

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct, and Nursing Standards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience within an Emergency Department, Intensive care Unit, Acute Surgery or Acute Medical setting.
  • Experience of formal, informal teaching of nurses
Desirable criteria
  • Significant experience in caring for acute respiratory patients on Non-Invasive Ventilation and tracheostomy care.

Qualifications

  • Adult NMC Registration
  • Relevent Degree Level
  • Postgraduate qualification in academic/ practice education or the willingness to work towards
