Do you have a passion to work in general medicine and palliative care in an acute physical health setting?  Would you like to co-lead a dynamic and friendly team with band 7 physiotherapists?

We seek a senior OT who can support the continued provision of a high quality, patient centred therapy service adhering to evidence based practice.

The Therapy Department benefits from an integrated approach to Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy management whilst providing clear OT specific professional leadership.  There is a strong commitment to staff training and development.

Do you have broad clinical skills including in complex discharge planning and recent experience in physical health and worked in the NHS or a similar healthcare setting at Band 6 or 7 level?

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration as a physiotherapist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists

Experience

  • Extensive post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting in the NHS or similar health service
  • Recent experience working at senior level (band 6 or 7) in an acute ward environment
  • Post registration experience in other relevant specialties including orthopaedics, frailty & neurology
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience and confidence working within a high pressured and fast paced environment
  • Experience supervising and appraising staff and students
  • Experience of Service Development
  • Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HCPC recommendations

  • Experience in working within a transdisciplinary environment

Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of current best practice in occupational therapy within acute hospital care settings
  • Good knowledge of best practice in occupational therapy for medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, frailty and pain management
  • In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group
  • Understand legal responsibilities of the profession & associated code of ethics

  • Ability to take a proactive approach to assessment and discharge planning
  • Ability to lead & motivate a team

  • Ability to present information both orally and written in a clear and logical manner
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
  • Ability to pass on knowledge & deliver training both internally within profession & externally to other staff groups
  • Ability to organise, prioritise, & delegate, and to support other staff in this

  • Ability to deal with challenging situations and with emotional / aggressive patients / carers
  • Be able to demonstrate flexibility and reliability
