Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, diligent and attentive individual to join the Surgery and Cancer Division at Barts Health. The role would be ideal for ambitious individuals at the beginning of their career seeking experience of the healthcare sector, as well as experienced staff who have already served in the NHS.
The role supports the performance of a core function of the department. The post holder will be responsible for providing quality administrative support with a focus on supporting a positive patient experience within the service with a key emphasis on patient pathway tracking and validation to achieve RTT standards. The post holder will work closely with the service team and receive support and training as required to fulfill the role.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of this role is to provide a comprehensive and efficient high quality administrative service to the surgery division. This will involve being an active and supportive member of the departments administrative and clerical team, ensuring a smooth and effective service for patients throughout their treatment by the Trust.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GSCE, A Level or equivalent standard of education.
- AMSPAR or equivalent experience or certificate level qualification.
- ECDL or equivalent experience e.g. experience of IT packages such as Word, Excel Outlook and Power Point.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant experience as medical secretary in the NHS or equivalent secretarial non NHS experience.
- Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team within an organisation.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of NHS systems such as PAS, CRS, EPR, DMS, G2 , Winscribe or any other digital dictation or patient information system.

- Knowledge of national NHS targets with respect to patient pathways, including 18 weeks referral to treatment and national cacner targets 2WW, 62 and 31 days referral to treatment.
Communication
Essential criteria
- Highly developed communication skills, with experience of dealing with patient’s & Client’s anxiety in reassuring manner,
- An ability to communicate clearly, coherently and professionally with a range of individuals as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Able to present a positive image of her/himself and the service.
- To advocate on behalf of the patient when the patient is unable to do so by being Patient or client focused.
