Ward Manager 7C Children’s Gastroenterology

Trosolwg o'r swydd

The role is to manage a 14 bedded children’s ward with a focus on gastroenterology. You will be expected to share both clinical and managerial skills in this role. We are looking for an individual with previous gastroenterology experience who is looking to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable paediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure and other relevant conditions.

The role involves a significant amount of safeguarding work and working closely with both the multi-disciplinary clinical teams and the children’s hospital senior management team.

The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership at ward level, setting and delivering high standards of clinical care. The post holder will provide 24 hour accountability for the overall management of the ward and the delivery of nursing care. Responsible for the management, deployment and supervision of nursing and associated staff and the management of the budget. To lead the development of ward nursing practice and standards of care. Responsible for the education of patients and staff.               

The post holder will provide and element of co-ordination of the discharge of complex, long-term patients, delegating appropriate tasks to the relevant members of the team.

  • • RSCN / RN Child with current NMC registration
  • • Practice Assessor and Supervisor course.
  • • PILS
  • • Evidence of continued practice development.

  • • Educated to degree level.
  • • Leadership course or development programme
  • • Gastroenterology course or qualification.
  • • EPALS/APLS.

Experience

  • • Very recent experience working on a gastroenterology ward.
  • • Experience in working with central lines, parenteral nutrition, PEGs and administering feeds.
  • • Experience of audits in a clinical area.

  • • Experience managing staff.

Knowledge and Skills

  • • Knowledge and understanding of parenteral nutrition and its’ management.
  • • Knowledge if both intestinal failure and inflammatory bowel disease.
  • • Ability to implement change in order to improve patient care.
  • • Clinical leadership skills.
  • • Adaptable and able to deal with changing workloads
  • • ICT skills.

  • • Ability to collect and analyse data using computerised systems
  • • Ability to manage a budget.
