Advert for NEPTS Patient Transport Driver:

We are looking for motivated and experienced Ambulance Drivers to join the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Barts Health.

Our NEPTS is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. All requests for patient transport are assessed on medical need. Transport is only provided for patients coming from their home addresses to North East London NHS Trust locations. Transport is also provided for patients going home from a North East London NHS Trust locations to a booked address stated by the ward or clinic anywhere in the mainland UK.

2 Years driving experience and full manual UK driving license required

Main duties of the job

The NEPTS Ambulance Driver performs a key role in providing a safe transport service for patients requiring transport to and from the Trust’s hospitals ensuring that all patients are transported in a timely manner in comfort and with minimal stress. The Ambulance Driver’s main duties includes transferring patients to and from their vehicle using a variety of equipment based on the patient’s mobility needs (including wheelchairs, carry chairs, stair climbers or stretchers) and ensuring that their vehicles are maintained in a clean and tidy manner, reporting immediately any defects or accidents. The Ambulance Drivers are also responsible for conducting dynamic risk assessments of patients and/or their environment before they are transported in non-emergency situations.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC or NVQ3 equivalent education
  • Good knowledge of UK geography
  • Clean driving license
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced driving qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting. Dealing with the elderly or infirm
  • Experience of working within a Patient transport environment
  • Understanding of Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Caldicott principles.
  • Experience of co-ordinating, reviewing and interpreting patient transfer requirements
  • Experience in reporting incidents and near misses and ability to share adequate handover information.
Desirable criteria
  • Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the CCG, the Patient User Group and Clinical groups
  • Should have an appreciation of CQC requirements as it relates to patient transport services.
