Specialist Cardiac Pharmacist – St Bartholomew’s Hospital

Band 7

(37.5 hours a week including back-up on call and weekend commitments)

Do you want to join an award-winning department that puts clinical pharmacists at the forefront of medicines optimisation and patient care?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the cardiac team at Barts Heart Centre within Barts Health NHS Trust.

The post holder will work alongside medical and nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to optimise the care of patients with cardiovascular disease within the Trust, as well as the wider community across NEL.  The post provides several opportunities for professional and personal development, contributing to quality improvement projects, supervising a variety of staff and supporting the delivery of world-class and innovative cardiovascular services.

You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy departments and student placements.

You should have experience or an interest in services within cardiology, cardiothoracic and cardiac critical care.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To support the lead pharmacist for cardiovascular services in providing responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing within the networks to:

- Optimise patient outcomes

- Minimise adverse reactions

- Improve medicines safety

· The post also helps to deliver the broader Medicines Optimisation and Governance Strategy across the Trust. These outcomes will be achieved primarily through leadership of clinical staff, and the publication and implementation of guidelines and procedures to encourage best practice

Qualifications

  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Certificate in General Pharmacy Practice /equivalent qualification or able to demonstrate equivalent experience and knowledge

  • Independent prescribing qualification
  • Postgraduate Pharmacy Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum postgraduate diploma level)

Experience

  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care
  • Experience appraising staff and giving feedback
  • Significant experience of working as a clinical pharmacy practitioner in an acute hospital NHS setting

  • Experience of providing hospital- based clinical service within cardiac services at Band 7 level or equivalent
  • Experience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement and change projects
  • Experience of leading and supervising research, quality improvement or audit projects
  • Ability to undertake and facilitate quality improvement, reflective practice, teaching and CPD

Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in cardiology at Diploma level or equivalent
  • Thorough understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk management
  • Knowledge of the key literature
  • Knowledge and awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to cardiology
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation

  • Knowledge of the law and relevant guidance relating to medicines, pharmacy, rationing decisions in the NHS, Payment by Results (PbR) and commissioning
  • Knowledge of the medication issues at the interface of primary and secondary care.

  • IT literate; able to use Microsoft office with intermediate IT skills including, accurate data entry and use of specialist computer programmes
