Are you an experienced and visionary pharmacy leader looking to make a lasting impact on workforce development across one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK?
We’re looking for an experienced, forward-thinking pharmacist to lead workforce transformation across one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts.
As Pharmacy training and workforce development lead, you’ll shape the future of pharmacy education, training, and career development. Based at the Royal London Hospital, this senior role supports strategic workforce planning across Barts Health and the wider Integrated Care System (ICS).
You’ll lead the delivery of a clear workforce vision aligned with national priorities such as the NHS People Plan. Working with internal and external partners—including NHSE, universities, ICS colleagues, and regulatory bodies—you’ll help develop a modern, flexible, and patient-centred pharmacy workforce.
Key responsibilities:
•    Lead workforce planning and pharmacy transformation.
•    Design structured training and career pathways.
•    Oversee high-quality pre-registration training aligned with GPhC and NHSE standards.
We’re seeking a GPhC-registered pharmacist with senior leadership experience in workforce development, strong strategic thinking, and a passion for developing others. You'll be part of a supportive team with access to professional development and mentoring.

Main duties of the job

•    The post holder is responsible for providing effective professional leadership and expert advice to the pharmacy department and to individual hospital-based pharmacy education and training teams/staff to ensure the department provides a safe, efficient, standardised service that meets the needs of patients and local stakeholders.
•    To work collaboratively with key stakeholders within Barts Health, North-East London Integrated Care System (ICS), Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and wider organisations to develop and deliver a clear strategy and vision for the transformation of the pharmacy workforce in line with the NHS Ten-year Plan and the NHS People Plan, the Trust’s corporate workforce and clinical strategies and relevant business plans.
•    To provide oversight and assurance for the delivery of pharmacy staff members’ training, development and transformation.
•    To implement and evaluate clear development frameworks for all members of the pharmacy team, including professionally-registered, scientific and administrative colleagues.

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of working as a clinical pharmacy practitioner in an acute NHS hospital setting
  • Proven experience of meeting service objectives, managing projects and supervising others to deliver
  • Experience of managing or supervising pre-registration training programmes
  • Effective delivery of lectures, workshops and formal presentations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of influencing national pharmacy education training and workforce policy

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates ability to identify problems, analyse root cause and propose solutions for complex problems Able to develop and review options appraisals, identify the most appropriate option and lead decision making

  • Coaching and mentoring others to aid their development and wellbeing

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge covering a range of pharmacy services relevant regulation, legislation and guidelines
  • Demonstrates good understanding of internal and external development programmes, qualifications, and eligibility criteria
  • Expert knowledge of the GPhC’s pre-registration performance standards for pharmacy professionals and how to apply them during the pre-registration training period
  • Good understanding of key NHS service strategy and planning and how these relate to workforce development PG Cert in Education or equivalent knowledge

  • PG Cert in Education or equivalent knowledge

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • MPharm or equivalent qualification suitable to register with the GPhC
  • Post Graduate pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience (minimum post graduate diploma level)
  • Level 5 Management qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • PG Cert in Education or equivalent knowledge

Other

Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
