The Royal London Hospital is seeking a dedicated Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistant to support our TTA Optimisation Service. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, timely, and accurate supply of discharge medicines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • TTA Assembly and Supply: Assist in the accurate assembly, labelling, and distribution of TTA medications, including dosette boxes and compliance aids.
  • Stock Management: Maintain stock accuracy by receiving deliveries, rotating stock, and identifying short-dated medicines for redistribution.
  • Collaboration: Foster positive relationships with pharmacy colleagues, clinical staff, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Administrative Support: Contribute to accurate data collection and documentation to support service monitoring and improvement initiatives.
  • Adherence to Policies: Follow Trust policies on confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, and infection control procedures.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will primarily support the TTA Optimisation Service at The Royal London Hospital, rotating between the TTA hub and dosette box workstream to assist in the safe, timely, and accurate supply of discharge medicines. As part of a team focused on improving discharge efficiency, the post holder will help prepare, label, and distribute prescribed items, maintain stock accuracy, and contribute to the day-to-day running of the service under the direction of the Senior Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician. 

A key part of this role involves maintaining safe and organised stock control across the TTA Hub and other clinical areas, including receiving and putting away deliveries, rotating stock, and identifying short-dated medicines for redistribution where necessary. The post holder will also assist with pharmacy top-up services and support the wider department in meeting medicines optimisation and discharge-related KPIs.

The role requires good communication, initiative, and the ability to work independently within defined procedures. The post holder is expected to foster positive working relationships with pharmacy colleagues, clinical staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • GCSEs (Grade A–C / 4–9) in English Language, Maths, and Double Science
  • • NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent qualification)
  • • Working towards or willingness to complete the HEE Medicines Optimisation Programme (MOP) or equivalent (e.g. POD checking and transcription accreditation)
Desirable criteria
  • • HEE MOP programme completed or accredited for POD checks and transcription
  • • Additional units in pharmacy stock control or medicines management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience in labelling and dispensing of medicines
  • • Experience working within a hospital or community pharmacy team
  • • Familiarity with pharmacy stock control systems (e.g. top-up, returns, expiry checks)
  • • Experience working in a team-based, patient-facing environment
  • • Demonstrated experience supporting medicine supply for discharge
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in a discharge or TTA-focused service
  • • Use of EPMA and CMM systems
  • • Experience working in ward-based or near-patient dispensing environments

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Awareness of the safe handling and use of medicines
  • • Understanding of stock management principles
  • • Awareness of confidentiality, GDPR, infection control, and health and safety standards
  • • Basic understanding of quality standards in medicines management
Desirable criteria
  • • Knowledge of POD and one-stop dispensing processes
  • • Familiarity with TTA workflows and their impact on patient flow

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Able to follow SOPs and maintain accurate documentation
  • • Attention to detail when labelling, picking and assembling medicines
  • • Confident communication with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and carers
  • • Basic IT literacy (e.g. Microsoft Office, electronic prescribing systems)
  • • Able to plan and prioritise daily workload under supervision
Desirable criteria
  • • Comfortable liaising with porters or pharmacy couriers for urgent tasks
  • • Confidence working independently when necessary, especially during high-volume periods

Essential criteria
  • • Friendly, approachable, and team-focused

  • • Willing to participate in late duty, weekend, and Bank Holiday rotas
