Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible, forward thinking band 6 nurse to join our friendly, progressive Pre-operative Assessment nursing team at The Royal London Hospital.  

You will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team, whilst utilising your clinical expertise to provide holistic, integrated patient centred care. 
This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate and expand your existing skills. The ability to use your own initiative and to work as part of a team are essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for managing a caseload of elective surgical patients, assessing,  planning and co-ordinating individualised care for patients undergoing elective surgical operations. They will work with all members of the MDT to ensure that the care the patients receive is of a 
consistently high quality

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Prep for Mentorship course or equivalent
  • Specialist post registration Clinical Course relevant to pre-operative assessment
  • Fulfils KSF outline for Staff Nurse (Band 5)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years at band 5 in an acute surgical area/theatres area.
  • Proven professional competence.
  • Awareness of research and audit related to Preoperative Assessme
  • Evidence of continuing education in relevant field of practice

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Physical assessment skills and clinical history taking skills (cardio vascular, respiratory, airway)
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Good level of skill in computer usage – able to use NHS data bases, input data and retrieve information.
  • Awareness of current issues and reforms in the NHS.
  • Experience of good budgetary control and efficient use of resources.
  • Desire for service improvement and efficiencies
