Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic motivated midwife who has a passion foe woman centred care and who can provide on a daily basis effective management of flow through the maternity unit resulting in high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay and will be responsive to individualised needs and increasing client satisfaction.

Daily you will be proactive in reviewing the capacity within the unit and supporting the midwives in effective and efficient discharge of woman from the unit especially the postnatal ward to avoid bed blockages. The successful candidate will work closely with midwives, ward managers, coordinators, and Matrons to achieve successful flow through the unit. 

The successful candidate will support with the IOL flow between the Antenatal ward and Delivery suite, timely transfer of women from Delivery suite to the postnatal ward or other areas as appropriate. Support with daily huddle meeting and surge call were necessary and provide up to date information on activity and staffing and escalating concerns to the senior midwifery team as necessary.

Main duties of the job

Provide leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of the daily activity and through put within the maternity unit.  This will result in high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay and will be responsive to individualised needs, thus increasing client satisfaction.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Midwife
  • • Educated to degree level
  • • Practice supervisor/Assessor
  • • Relevant experience in post registration experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Master’s qualification or relevant master’s level of experience in specialist areas

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has relevant post registration experience.
  • Experience of working as a senior band 6 midwife role.
  • Practice development or management of projects or initiatives.
  • Experience in people management and improving the patient experience
  • Mentoring experience. Decision making ability.
  • Experience of change management/implementation of practice change.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering and co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
