Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative and End of Life Care
Band 7
Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.
The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.
Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.
Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.
We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.
Job overview
Please note, there are TWO PERMANENT posts available - ONE FULL TIME (37.5 HOURS PER WEEK) and ONE PART TIME (18.75 HOURS PER WEEK)
We are pleased to offer an opportunity to join the Specialist Palliative Care Team within one of the country’s largest acute NHS Trusts. The post is based at Newham University Hospital, providing ongoing support to ensure people with specialist palliative care needs receive high‑quality, person‑centred care.
The post holder will be an experienced practitioner with extensive palliative care expertise, delivering clinically effective and evidence‑based care for patients with complex needs. Using specialist skills, you will manage a caseload of patients and support their families/carers throughout life‑limiting illness.
The role contributes to a local hospital service that enables timely assessment, advance care planning, and treatment for patients with complex palliative needs. You will work collaboratively with ward staff and specialist community teams, including supporting rapid discharge home for terminal care.
You will act as a specialist resource across the system by influencing care through education and training for multi‑professional teams, supporting statutory and voluntary agencies, and participating in research, audit, and service development in palliative and end‑of‑life care.
The post also includes flexibility to support a move toward seven‑day working, providing weekend and bank holiday cover alongside the existing CNS team.
